Meet Daria!
la la la la la

Daria was a cartoon in the late 90's and early 2000's on MTV, and if you haven't seen it yet, you totally should. It's on the MTV app. Go.
Anyway, the show is about 16-year-old Daria Morgendorffer, whose family moves to the upper middle class suburb of Lawndale. Her cute and popular younger sister Quinn fits in literally upon getting out of the car, but misfit Daria doesn't exactly want to fit in and play nice (and really, couldn't even if she tried). She finds a kindred spirit in Jane Lane, and the two pair up to survive high school and call people out on their bullshit, with some bumps and lessons learned along the way.
That's pretty much the whole plot.
you're standing on my neck

If you read the above, you've got a pretty good idea of Daria.
She comes from a good family, with workaholic parents and a shallow sister, who Daria tends to be hard on, and vice versa. She doesn't really fit in, and they want her to; her parents, who worry she's isolating herself, and Quinn, because Daria's ruining her rep. Daria's smart, and would be happy to ignore everyone else and just read by herself, but unfortunately society keeps making her deal with other people, and other people keep proving how much they suck.
She gets labeled a brain, and a misfit, and a weird kid. She's not really happy with these labels, but here she is. Her room in Lawndale had padded walls (from the previous owner, she left them up), she reads things like Kafka and Poe for fun, she's a writer who has a main character with an extremely high body count. She's not dark or depressed, though. That's just what she likes, and to hell with the people who don't like that.
(Doesn't mean her feelings won't get hurt if people don't like her, though.)
So yes, she's a misanthrope who's very quick with the snark, and who will probably be on the sidelines of the first invasion she experiences, making bets on who the first person to lose a body part will be.
She'll be coming in post-canon, after her freshman year at Raft College, up in the Boston area. On her summer break, she's taking a job teaching a creative writing workshop, except it's fall here, and time works weird. Oopsie doopsie.
If you need to know what she looks like, which you probably want to, since people often comment on how much she doesn't try. Daria doesn't wear makeup except maybe lipstick sometimes (it may be a color pallette change in later seasons), her hair is brown and kinda shapeless (I literally just realized she might have bangs?), and her eyes are supposedly brown under thick, round black glasses. In the show she's shown wearing a green jacket over a brownish shirt, a black pleated skirt and combat boots, and in fact several versions of that is what's mostly in her closet.
Also, she mostly speaks in a deadpan. Not a monotone, there's inflection. Just… imagine a deadpan and that's 90% of how she speaks.
me!
